Construction Information
Construction work on SR 522 is currently underway and is expected to continue into 2010. Construction schedules are updated weekly and outline the projected construction activities for the next two weeks. These schedules are subject to change due to material deliveries, weather and other circumstances.

Here is what is currently taking place:

Burke-Gilman Trail
The 73rd Ave. NE underpass opened in June 2008 and the trail was fully re-opened in December 2008.

Central segment – 65th Ave. NE to 73rd Ave. NE
Construction for this section of SR 522 is currently taking place and will continue into 2010. Some of the improvements include:

  • New traffic signal at 73rd Ave. NE and NE 181st St.
  • Realignment of the 68th Ave. NE and NE 181st St. intersection
  • Traffic lane work on the south side of SR 522 at the intersection with 68th Ave. NE, adding dual westbound left turn lanes onto SR 522 and a northbound lane on 68th Ave. NE.
  • Realignment of the SR 522 and 65th Ave. NE intersection (including an associated minor shift of the Burke-Gilman Trail)
  • New sidewalks, medians, street lighting and landscaping

East segment – 73rd Ave. NE to 83rd Pl. NE
Construction for this section of SR 522 is currently taking place and will continue through summer 2009. Some of the improvements include:

  • Extending Business Access and Transit lanes from 73rd Ave NE to the east city limits at 83rd Pl. NE
  • Replacing the bridge over Swamp Creek
  • New traffic signals at 77th Ct. NE (Kenmore Square) and 83rd Pl. NE
  • New sidewalks, medians, street lighting and landscaping

The SR 522 Improvement Project regularly submits project updates to the Kenmore Newsletter and to the Kenmore E-News.
