City of Kenmore SR 522 Improvement Project

Project Overview
The City of Kenmore is completing several improvements to SR 522 to increase safety, improve transit reliability, and ease congestion. Improvements include adding new traffic signals and sidewalks, widening SR 522 for Business Access and Transit lanes, replacing the Swamp Creek Bridge, and more. Construction Updates
Rescheduled Night Work – SR 522 & 68th Avenue NE
During the evenings of Monday, February 8 through Thursday, February 11, crews will be saw cutting pavement in order to repair traffic loops at the intersection of SR 522 and 68th Avenue NE. Lanes will be temporarily shifted as crews work their way around the intersection. Traffic control will be in place to assist drivers through the intersection. Night work hours are from 7 pm to 5 am. This work is weather dependent.

Paving Closure Scheduled for Feb. 2 - 68th Avenue NE between 181st and 182nd
On Tuesday, February 2, crews are scheduled to complete a final paving overlay on 68th Avenue NE between NE 181st Street and NE 182nd Street. This segment of 68th Avenue NE will be closed from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

A detour route will be in place; vehicles will be directed to 73rd Avenue NE. Flaggers and signage will be in place to help direct traffic.

Paving work is weather dependent and could be shifted to another day if needed.

Reflective Pavement Marker Installation – SR 522 from 65th Avenue NE to 83rd Avenue NE
On the evening of January 6, crews installed reflective pavement markers to improve visibility on SR 522 from 65th Avenue NE to 83rd Avenue NE.

Utility Work- Central Segment
Various utility companies are working throughout the corridor to convert overhead utility wires to underground over the next month. This work may require temporary closures of the BAT lanes on SR 522, or lane shifts on side streets. Utility work will be completed during daytime hours.

Street Lighting, Landscaping, Sidewalks and Property Restoration – Central Segment
Miscellaneous improvements are occurring throughout the central segment. Crews are finishing up the installation of street lighting and landscaping, completing remaining sidewalks and minor retaining walls, and continuing private property restorations over the next several weeks.

BAT Lanes Open – SR 522 from 65th Avenue NE to 73rd Avenue NE
The eastbound and westbound Business Access and Transit (BAT) lanes on SR 522 from 65th Avenue NE to 73rd Avenue NE have been reopened during evening and weekend hours. Expect intermittent closures, as work necessitates, during daytime hours (7:00 am to 3:30 pm).

Construction Hours and Business Access
Daytime construction runs weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If necessary, work will continue on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Occasionally construction may continue as late as 7:00 p.m. Night hours will be from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Throughout construction the project team is committed to keeping businesses accessible. “Businesses open during construction” signs are placed near businesses along SR 522 where work is taking place.
